this has quickly become my go to place to pick up Indian food. The prices are reasonable and it tastes like home made food. Place is not large enough or intended for sit down lunches or dinners, it is mostly a take away place. If you go there, you must try their Mango ras malai....so yummm.
Also be careful, sometimes the sweets tend to be stale.

Usually a few minutes late, but food is good. Not awesome, but meets my needs. Mostly open, so easy place to order to pick up.

    Will recommend for pick up.

This place makes EXTREMELY delicious vegetarian Samosas. They've got a little kick, they're packed full of flavor, with a gorgeous golden yellow tone. The batter is just perfectly CRISP, and you bite in and get beautiful whole chunks of savory spices blending in there.

I would have to say because of this that these are the best samosas that I've had in a LONG while.

I just wish that the sauce that comes with it was a little bit more than is given.

Equally the Paneer Pakoda is superbly delicious. It's quite fat compared to other places I have ordered from, with big chunks of cheese, but they include the beautiful center flavoring of spices between their cheese, and the batter was not overdone nor dried out.

They make an equally and beautifully delicious Keshmiri Puloo- which has almonds and fruit blended in. It's got a beautiful flavour and color.

The Shai Paneer has a different flavour than most other competitors in this city go for- and the only thing I'd say about it, is I wish that the cheese pieces were bigger, and more plentiful. I did ask for extra, and got a half-smeared off message that said something about charging extra for it... but I am not sure it's anywhere on the menu yet to include that.

But for a dish that hinges on including paneer,/cheese as the main ingredient I'd like to see a more robust and plentiful inclusion of the same in this dish.

Outside of that the flavour is good and unique, although I'd say this one lends more to having a stronger tomato base, but the flavour/spices are plentiful.

Now I've tried the regular Daal Makani from here, and I would say I was disappointed in this dish. The deeper blended, creamy, but rich flavor was just missing. But to be fair, I've only had one restaurant come up close to that bar, so most restaurants just fall short. However, being my favorite dish, I would like to see if Apna Panjab reworks this dish so that it can be rich, but flavorful again.

So after trying the original daal makhani that I love so much, but being disappointed- this time I wanted to try the Dal Panchratni and see if maybe that would be any better.

I will say now that I was NOT disappointed with this version (Daal Panchratni). It's a more 'chunky' blend of Dal with quite a unique flavour. I found lots of onion slices inside this mix (which I thoroughly enjoyed), and found the flavour to be really great.

The only downside is that you can't pick your level of heat/spice- which is something that I really would love to bring this dish right up to the top.

It would be nice if Apna Panjab included a heat system that allowed customers to add heat/spice to their dishes, as I'd consider these all quite mild.

But for anyone looking to try some different but very tasty and well rounded Indian food in Edmonton, I'd say give this place a go.

ONLY other thing I also am surprised is that they don't have any raita whatsoever on their menu. Equally surprised they don't offer any vegetable raita.

But then again the dishes are mild so there's no real need for this.
